The day’s first race was the men’s 50 and over category. Setting the stage for the rest of the day, our V50-59 team secured a very close 3rd place, just one point behind 2nd-placed Worthing. The team, comprising David Benton (4th), Duncan Curtis (13th), and Richard Rutter (25th), showcased a strong performance.
In the same race, the V60-69 men competed, and we’re delighted to announce that our team clinched the gold, with an additional individual bronze for John Lowden (3rd). The trio included John, Mark Dooley (5th), and Gary Christie (9th). Commiserations to Sean Gibson (10th), who ran stride for stride with Gary but was out-sprinted on the long descent to the finish line.
The next race featured the women, with all age groups running together from 35 upwards. A standout performance came from Linda Schofield, now a V50, who won the race outright. Linda, Paula Blackledge (5th) and Jeanette Kenneally (12th) secured 18 points, earning our V45-54 team a silver, complementing Linda’s individual gold.
Our V55 and upwards team clinched bronze, led by Tamsin Shasha (5th), Cathy Ulliott (8th), and V65 Judith Carder (14th), who also earned an individual silver in her age category.
Saving the best for last, in the final race of the day (V35 to V49 men), our six starters with four to score finished 1st (Craig Halsey), 2nd (Zared Hale), 3rd (Howard Bristow), and 4th (Zee Wattar), securing a clean sweep of individual medals and team gold. Louis Taub finished 7th, and Adam Clayton finished 25th.
An excellent set of results from our masters athletes, securing team medals in all age groups we competed in. Well done to everyone who took part!
