MIDDLE DISTANCE RUNNING

We have different coaches and sessions for different running abilities. Please read below to find out which group suits your ability the best:

ADULT RUNNING CLUB

We have a thriving running group, run by Sam Lambourne and Tony Plank, who train at the Withdean track on a Tuesday from 7 PM.

You can just turn up to this group and you will be fitted to a group that best suits your ability. This group is for any standard

TOM’S ENDURANCE/MIDDLE DISTANCE GROUP

Tom’s group comprises almost exclusively adults, so no younger age groups unless a parent/guardian is also training in the group.   They do road sessions on a Tuesday and track sessions on a Thursday.

Tuesday road sessions are completely free and comprise a mix of men and women and a range of ability, typically able to run 5k in something between about 18 mins to 25 mins. The group often splitting into two or more sub-groups during the session, there’s also a mix of club membership with many B&H AC people but also Arena 80, Phoenix and Vegan Runners.  They tend to do 10k type training on a Tuesday which typically include say 3 x 2 mile reps or 6 x 1 mile, 10 x 800m etc.  For these sessions they usually meet at either Hove Prom, at the top end near to the Deep Sea Angler’s clubhouse OR in Hove Park, meeting time is 7pm, warmed up and ready to run.

Thursday is usually sharper paced with say 8  x 400m or 10 x 300m and so on. More recently all of their Thursday sessions have been held at the Withdean track for which the club take a track user fee to cover track hire costs. Again the meeting time is 7pm, fully warmed up and ready to run.

As for structured runs during the week and especially longer Sunday runs, there are a number of unstructured social groups around the Brighton and Hove area as well as a more structured, commercial hence a fee payable, runbrighton  who have a large group of pace-led runners each Sunday.
