U15 Amber wins Silver at Sheffield in the National Age Group Championships

March 3, 2015

On Sunday – after two personal bests in the 200m including a 25.18 run in the semi Amber Anning lined up for the national indoor final as the fastest qualifier. Her main competition was Joyce Ogunleye from Colchester, who had taken the 60m crown on Saturday, but whom Amber had beaten to win the Southern 200m indoor title in January. It was a fantastic final line up with the Welsh Champion, the Scottish Champion, the Northern runner up, The Southern Champion – Amber – and Joy.

Amber in the preferred fifth lane had Joy on her outside and for 150m was in the lead until the final bend when the Colchester athlete surged and Amber could not respond. The B&H youngster came in second in another fine time of 25.27 to the winners 25.12.

Meanwhile in the U20 Pole Vault George Turner came seventh with a height of 4.30m and Katie Garland leapt 5.49m, also for seventh place, in the U20 Women’s Long Jump. Anna Short made it to the semis of the U20 60m where she ran a PB of 7.83 seconds.
