U13/U15 YDL Opener, Ashford, 3rd May 2014

May 14, 2014

The first U13/U15 Youth Development League match was held in perfect sunny conditions at the Julie Rose stadium at Ashford in Kent. Unfortunately the starter failed to show up, so the track races were started with a whistle which means the times are not eligible for rankings.

The day started very well with our only field winner Elie Fitzgerald in her first league meeting winning the girls U15 hammer with a throw of 23.51m and Emily Robinson winning the B string with 16.96m to gain maximum points.

On the track in the U15’s Amber Anning over 200m (26.15 secs) and Tom Eames in the 1500m (4.33.8) both started the season with impressive victories.

In the U13 girls Jessica Courtney won the 800m in great style in 2.37.94 whilst Emily’s sister, Flo Robinson, won the B 800m race in 2.38.52 and came 2nd in the javelin with a throw of 22.71m. There were many promising performances from the team. In her first league meeting Mollie Kichenside won the B javelin (15.72m) and came 2nd in the shot with a putt of 6.13m. Anna Dornbusch won the B string shot with 6.10m.

The team finished in 5th place only 27 points behind the 3rd team so hopefully at the next meeting at Withdean on May 31st, with home advantage, we should place higher.

It was another great day out for the team and thank you to all the parents and officials that came to support and help.
