Club Communication & Spond
Spond is the app Brighton & Hove AC uses for training updates, events, attendance and club communication.
It allows us to keep all official information in one secure, reliable place.
We have chosen Spond because it reduces missed messages, avoids confusion from multiple chat groups,
and helps coaches plan sessions more effectively. It also reduces admin time, allowing volunteers and coaches
to focus on supporting athletes.
We strongly encourage all athletes and parents to download the Spond app.
While email notifications are available, the app provides the clearest, most reliable experience
and helps ensure important information isn’t missed.
Privacy & safeguarding: Personal details are not shared with the wider club.
Only relevant coaches and administrators can see group information. Phone numbers and email
addresses are not publicly visible, and Spond does not sell data or display adverts.

How are the monthly payments taken (if applicable)?
Members receive the subscription request in their Spond app. From there, they can:

If a payment fails, Spond will retry it automatically and notify the club administrators.

Why do athletes aged 9–19 pay £20 per month but adults only pay £5?
Junior club members don’t train alone and many regularly train at Withdean Stadium twice a week on club nights.
They use club facilities and coaching more heavily.
The monthly payment is unaffordable — who can I speak to?
Please read the
Members Support Fund information
.Applications are considered in strict confidence.
I don’t train at the track, I coach myself and only run occasionally for the club. Why do I have to pay a monthly payment?
First and foremost Brighton & Hove AC is an athletics club, not a running club.
All of our members are equal members and should therefore contribute towards the running of our fantastic club.
I am new to athletics and competing. How do I keep track of the competitions I have entered and my results?
Log in to Power of 10.
Your results are usually published a few days after the event.
How do I hear about competitions I can enter?
There are various ways of finding out about competitions:

Why do athletes aged 9–19 pay £20 per month but adults only pay £5?
Junior members train regularly at Withdean Stadium and make greater use of club facilities and coaching,
which is why their monthly fee is higher.
What happens if I don’t download the Spond app?
You can still receive information if you don’t download the Spond app. Messages, event invitations
and payment requests can be sent by email (and in some cases SMS), and Spond can also be accessed via a web browser.
However, choosing not to use the app does have some drawbacks:
- You may receive a high volume of emails, which some people find tiring
- Important messages can be missed if emails go to spam or junk folders
- Managing events, messages and payments via email or the web version is less convenient
- Features such as calendar syncing and direct messaging work best in the app
- The mobile app provides instant notifications, which are generally more reliable than email alone
From an admin point of view, members not using the app creates additional manual work.
For this reason, we strongly encourage athletes and parents to download and use the Spond app wherever possible.
