Sussex XC League – Lancing Saturday 5th December 2015

December 8, 2015

Stephen Ferroni was a first time winner at Lancing taking the Men’s race after a battle with club mate Howard Bristow. It was not until they were into the second half of the event that 18 year old Ferroni squeezed the pace and moved clear of the field and stretched his lead all the way to the finish in 28:42, nearly half of one minute clear of Bristow’s 29:10.

There was an excellent turnout in the younger age groups with a total of 30 Brighton and Hove AC under 13 and under 15 athletes completing – possibly a club record. There were again many excellent performances. With one league fixture to go, all are four teams are in medal positions. The final league race is at a new venue at Hickstead on the 13th February 2016 where, with a few of the leading athletes missing there will be a great chance for others to get in the scoring three.

In the under 13 girls race we had 11 athletes 10 of whom finished in the first 25. Pia led the team home with an excellent run in 5th place with Rebecca 9th and Tatum completing the A team in 11th. They were closely followed home by Astrid 12th, Lois 13th, Lacey 18th, Roxy 19th, Morgan 20th, Zara 21st, Ella 25th and Ella Monk 37th. On the day the team came second and are 11 points behind Phoenix in second place. The B team were 4th and are 4th in the league showing the depth we have.

In the under 13 boys, the team came second three points behind Lewes and beating league leaders Hastings. They are now well placed in 3rd. Again it was Adam who led home the team in 6th, with Patrick 8th and Haiden 11th close behind. Again showing our depth we had six more finishers with Tom 15th, Josh 17th, Guy 20th, Oscar 26th, Archie 31st and George 33rd.

In the under 15 girls the team were led home by Olivia who had an excellent run in 5th place and just like the first two fixtures Amber came 13th and Jemima 16th to bring the team home in 3rd place and still maintain 2nd place in the league.

In the under 15 boys race the team came 1st beating the Chichester team and are still second in the league. Again like the girls they had the same scores with Tomer having another great run in 3rd place with Finn 9th and Joe 10th competing the team. Max led the B team home in 11th with the Sam K in 24th and Sam W in 25th.

In the under 17 men Tommy came in 8th and in the under 17 girls in her first race for the club Emma came 12th.

Lastly good luck to under 13’s Lois, Pia, Adam and Patrick. under 15’s Olivia and Tomer and under 17 Brodie who will be competing for Sussex in the South East Inter Counties at Bigglewade on Saturday.
