Sussex Under 13 Championships, Sunday 6th July 2014

July 10, 2014

In perfect conditions 32 of our Under 13 athletes competed in the Sussex championships held in the beautiful Withdean Stadium. They won a total of 22 medals, six golds, eight silvers and eight bronzes. Added to this were many personal bests and a fantastic  crowd supporting all the athletes.

Pride of place goes to Danny Ross-Horton, who not only won three golds, but had three personal bests in the 75msprint, Javelin and long jump where his 4.82m was just short of the CBP, showing his all round ability. Danny also  anchored the relay team of Jamie Arnold, Dominic Pay and Adam Firsht to 3rd place in the relay.

Our other Gold winners were Mollie Kichenside in the discus and Jamie Arnold in the 800m where we had a 1-2-3 with Adam F and Max Brazier just behind. New member George Miller, who was just pipped by Danny over 75m, came back to win the 150m in his first competition.

Florence Robinson also showed her all round ability by gaining silver medals in the Javelin and Hurdles and bronze in a personal best 800m and with Tulula, Anna, and Verity gained a 3rd place in the relay.

Finn and Isabelle both gained silver medals in their two events. Finn in the 1200m and hurdles and Isabelle in the shot and discus.

Lastly to cap a memorable day Luke in the high jump, Thomas in the shot, Adam in the hurdles all gained 3rd places in their first championship and Niamh in the 1200m also collected a bronze.

Well done to all the others that I have not mentioned, most of them will be back next year and a big thanks to Melanie Anning, who organised the event, the officials, all our coaches and parents as without them these events would not take place.
