Sussex under 13 Championships, Quad kids and 3000m Championships.

July 5, 2011

This Sunday saw the under 13 County Championships: at this, in glorious weather our athletes performed brilliantly and we had the following medal winners:

GOLD:
Thomas Law in the boys 75m hurdles.
Harry Golton in the boys high jump.
Hawk Norton in the boys javelin.
Theo Hines in the boys discus and shot putt.
Anniera Farrah-Daniel in the girls long jump.

SILVER:
Aiden Silsby in the boys discus.
Lara Charman in the girls discus and javelin.
Nancy Jones in the girls 1200m.
Theo Hines in the boys long jump.

BRONZE:
Emma Gutierrez-Waldron in the girls high jump.
Anniera Farrah-Daniel in the girls shot putt and 150m
Aiden Silsby in the boys shot putt.
Nancy Harman in the girls javelin.
The boys and girls 4x100m relays.

The outstanding performance of the day was by Theo Hines, who broke the Championship record in all 6 throws in the discus. In the shot putt he went one better by not only smashing the Championship record by over 2m, a huge margin in the shot, but he also broke the County record that had stood since 1998! The 12.32 m that he threw puts him 1.2m ahead of any other athlete in the Country. A superb display and he also gained a silver in the long jump.

These are just the medallists, there were many other fine performances resulting in P.B’S for many of the kids.
In the under 11’s Quad Kids Championship Amber Anning was a run-away winner in the girls event. This event was run by the County Network organisation and organised by our own Trevor Simcox.  In the Under 15’s 3000m Championships there was a silver for Stephan Ferroni and a bronze for James Oliver: both fine performances.

So as you can see the future of the club is in safe hands and it is up to everyone at the club to ensure we encourage the kids in every way we can.
This weekend the senior women have a home fixture on Saturday so if you are free come down and cheer them on. The junior team, under 20’s, have a match at Portsmouth on Sunday.

My thanks to Kym Reeves and her mums who ran the teas at the under 13’s on Sunday.
