On a cold and dull day 25 Brighton youngsters finished the winter season in fine style at the Sussex Road Relays at Christ Hospital. There were many excellent performances.

With three in a team the under 13 girls were 2nd, 3rd and 4th behind Hastings, showing our strength and depth. On the first leg Lois Dooley ran 6 mins 50 seconds, 47 seconds faster than last year. This was two seconds slower than Niamh Halloren who was 3rd fastest overall. Flo Robinson in 7 mins 4 seconds competed the team which gained the silver medal. Not far behind, the B team of Pia Lewes 7 mins 1 second, Roxy Jones 7 mins 2 seconds and Amber Wright 7 mins 18 seconds – in her first race for the club – were 3rd team home. Just outside of the medals our C team of Jessica Courtney 7 mins 3 seconds who had her best run of the season, Lacey Fowler 7 mins 28 seconds and Astrid Blackledge 7 mins 12 seconds showed how close the times were.

The under 13 boys team also gained the team silver medal. On the first leg Adam Firsht 6 mins 21 seconds came in in third place and Jamie Arnold 6 mins 37 seconds gained one place to move the team into second, which was held by Finn Halloren 6 mins 9 seconds – a time which was second equal fastest, just six seconds behind the leading runner.
