This summer the youth team swept all before them to be crowned champions of their Division in the National YAL. From the first meeting away at a very rainy Tonbridge in early May to the last in a heat wave at Croydon in July the team led the way. Although by losing to South London by half a point on the final day they lost their 100% winning run, they still finished with a total of 2386.5 points. 317 in front of second place.

The atmosphere in the squad was fantastic all season with athletes supporting and encouraging their team mates if they were getting pb’s or coming in last. The fact that the squad had a total of 74 athletes competing in the three age groups of under 13’s 15’s and 17’s throughout  the season, showed that the club is healthy with a strong crop of youngsters coming through.

Although there were many pb’s through the season the three grade one’s all came from girls. Come on boys! Alice Potterton jumped 1.45m in the under 13 girl high jump, Martha Coyle ran a time of 4:02.77 for under 13 girls 1200m and Grace Hailstone threw 36.31m under 17 women javelin.

The prize for winning the Division is promotion to Premier League for 2011, a tough test against the best in the South East of England.

As lead manager I would like to thank the other managers, coaches, officials, parents and athletes for a successful enjoyable season, a real club effort, we should all be proud.
