No Golds but plenty of Glory at Goodwood – U13/15/17 report

October 6, 2016

The Brighton youngsters started the winter season in grand style in the Sussex Cross Country Relay Championships at Goodwood winning five team medals.

There were many excellent performances. Rebecca Losh not only led the U13 girls team of Ella Matthews and Lacey Fowler to 2nd place she also recorded the 2nd fastest lap. The B team of Jess Corbet and first year in the age group Eadie Yelling and Ruby Wilson came an excellent 4th place and were the 1st B team.

The U13 boys team of Will Matthews, Josh Pay and Haiden May also came an excellent 2nd place with Haiden recording the 4th fastest lap. We also had the first B team consisting of Oscar Davies, Henry Yelling and Archie Rowles who came an excellent 5th. Further showing our club depth the C team of George Taylor, Kofi Obeng and Kit Monti came 9th out of the 22 teams.

The U15 boys also won a silver team medal. The team was led by Henry Taylor, who in his first cross country race came 5th on the first leg, handing over to Max Brazier who ran a storming leg in exactly the same time as Henry to take the team into first place, before Finn Halloren, despite running faster than Max and Henry, was just caught by Hastings. However Finn held off a very strong team from Crawley and he, like Haiden, ran the 4th fastest leg in his age group. The B team of Patrick Connelly, Adam Firsht and Lucas Losh came in 6th place were the 1st B team home.

Lois Dooley, who suffered a heavy fall, led the U15 girls team of Amber Wright and Niamh Halloren. Despite Lois’s setback the girls fought bravely to recover and collect a bronze medal. The B team of Astrid Blackledge, Alex Nann and Zara Smith came 6th.

For the U17 boys Ewan Edmans, Tomer Tarragano and Tom Eames also came third to claim the bronze medal.

Well done to everyone. It was a great team effort all round and thanks too for the support from the parents. The results bode well for the rest of the winter season.
