Sussex Cross Country season ends!

The Sussex Cross Country League drew to a close on 14th February with the final race at a sunny but wet underfoot, Glyndebourne. See the report on the Sussex Athletics website www.sussexathletics.net/news/cross-country-league-comes-to-sunny-close/

It was another very successful year for the club. Here’s a summary of all the team and individual medals. But a big well done to everyone that took part.

Medals on the national stage!

We were well represented in the National Cross Country Championships, the British Indoor Championships and the Masters Indoor Championship last weekend, so nice to see the red and black vests on the national stage.

Also congratulations to Florence Matten at the England Athletics Age Group Championships in Sheffield with a championship-winning clearance of 3.76m in the Under 15 girls pole vault. Setting a new British Athletics indoor age-group record.

Membership Renewals

Membership renewal emails have been sent out by Rhiannon (Membership Secretary). We have now moved to a new system called Spond and will be sending out correspondence, including the newsletter from there going forward. If you haven’t received your reminder, then you can renew your membership via this link:https://brightonandhoveac.com/join/renewals/.

Looking forward to the Summer Season

There are only a few more races remaining of the winter season before we moved into a jam packed summer season. The Club takes part in the following leagues:

  • Sussex U13/U15 Leagues
  • Youth Development Leagues (U13, U15, U17 and U20)
  • Southern Athletics League (U17 upwards)
  • Veterans League (35 years +)

Each of these leagues have Team Managers who you need to let know you are available to compete, a list of these can be found on the website https://brightonandhoveac.com/training/team-managers/

Track training for adult members

Did you know adult middle distance runners can now at the track on both a Tuesday and Thursday evening? All abilities are welcome. Sessions don’t usually exceed 5km and are a great way to increase your fitness.

On Tuesday’s Tony Plank runs starting at 7pm, meeting at the start line in front of the stands..

And on Thursday evenings Tom Ulliott (who also runs a session on the roads on Tuesday evening) is there from 7pm. For more information email Tom.ulliott@brightonandhoveac.com

Track training is free for members of the Club, but a fee is charged for non-members (ask Tony or Tom how to pay).

Research request Brighton Half Marathon

Rebecca Hillis a Media and Journalism student at the University of Sussex is looking for participants who are running the Brighton Half Marathon and who would be willing to take part in a short interview afterward the race. She is doing a project focused on The Brighton Half Marathon and the emergence of Gen-Zs interest running, fitness and health. If you are interested email her at: rh655@sussex.ac.uk.

The kit shop will be open on

Also remember that used athletics kit is now available in the Club House Take items only if needed, and consider making a donation in return. Donations of clean, good-quality kit are welcome – leave them in the designated area.

Members Access Fund

If you need help covering training, membership, injury-related costs or competition expenses to represent the club, support is available.

Brighton & Hove Athletic Club runs a Members Access Fund for members who may need financial support. Small grants are available, and applications are treated respectfully and confidentially.
