Linda shines at European and British Master’s Virtual 5k Relays

June 20, 2020

Six of Brighton and Hove AC veteran athletes took part in this virtual challenge earlier in the month, and Tom Ulliott the Vets Team Manager has written up this report:
Far and away our best result came from Linda Schofield who was outright winner in the FV45-49 category with an outstanding time of 18:09, Linda also leading home the GB winning team in that category.
Craig Halsey was 4th overall in the MV40-44 category with a time of 16:07, this also placing him 4th Brit so just missing out on the winning GB team as 3 were to score.
In the FV50-54 category we had two finishers with Jeanette Kenneally 8th in 22:13 and Tamsin Shasha 10th in 23:28.
In the FV55-59 category Cathy Ulliottt was 4th overall with an excellent time of 20:08, just a few seconds off 3rd and, as was the case with Craig, this meant she was also 4th GB athlete, so again just missed out on making the scoring, winning team.
Lastly, we had myself Tom Ulliott in the MV60-64 category where despite my best efforts my time of 19:49 was only sufficient for 13th place and well outside the GB scoring trio.
As well as the individual age groups there was both an overall age graded % category as well as team category for the best 12 age graded results regardless of age group and gender. Linda (90.06%) and Cathy (87.8%) did well here too with Linda coming out 19th of the 430 entries and Cathy 33rd. Craig was our next here with an impressive 85.66% with me a little further back with 82.6%.

Well done to all and watch this space next week for a report on the British Masters virtual 5k relay challenge taking place between 14th and 20th June.

More success at the British Masters 5k relays 14-20 June

More success for B&H AC athletes at the British Masters virtual 5k road relays. Last week saw the climax of the 7-day window in which British Masters athletes had the opportunity to run and record a 5k as part of the national championships and our athletes again performed well with individual gold for Linda Schofield in the V45-49 category and team bronze for Linda, Paula Blackledge and Cathy Ulliott in the V45-54 category. A summary of the performance for those who took part is shown in the attached pictures but in total we had 15 of our athletes compete with top spot going to Linda with her outstanding run, but also to Cathy who was our only other top 10 scorer with a very good 5th in the 55-59 age group. Cathy dropping age groups in the team race to enable the V45-54 team to take a fantastic 3rd place, 31 seconds ahead of local rivals Arena 80. Craig Halsey continued with his recent good form to record 15:47 for 13th place in the V40 category in what was our only other top 15 individual placing. This event proved to be highly competitive with WELL OVER 4,000 ENTRIES so well done to all of our members who took part.
