Amber Anning U20 400m British Indoor record at the British Championships, Birmingham 10thFebruary
A massive well done to Amber Anning who set a new U20 indoor British record of 53.0 toppling a record that had stood for 49 years! Running strongly Anning did well to make the final where she excelled herself to take the silver medal behind Thames Valley’s Zoey Clark. Following on from her fantastic performance Amber has now been selected to represent Great Britain at the European Championships in Glasgow in August. This is her first selection for the senior team having only just turned 18. She is the youngest member of the GB team.
Well done Amber we will all be cheering for you so you should be able to hear us from Glasgow! You can watch Amber’s post race video here: https://bit.ly/2GFTn3w

Report From Peter Witcomb on the Final XC league at Bexhill –
The final Sussex cross country league meeting was held at a very windy Bexhill common, however that did not stop over 40 of our youngsters from braving the tough conditions and as in the first two meetings there were again many excellent performances with 21 of the team coming away with team medals and 6 more receiving individuals medals.
The first race of the day in the u/11 boys Tom again had an excellent run finishing 2nd as he had done in the previous 2 races and he came away with the individual silver medal. Not far behind brother Freddie came 8th and Oliver 12th and they will all be moving up next year to the u/13 team.
In the u/13 girls race Dulcie led the team home in 5th place followed by Rosie 7th and Macy 8th and all 3 will be in the same age group next year. Not far behind and showing the depth we have in this age group Sophie came 9th, Maddy 11th, Mollie 14th, Xanthe 16th, Tilly 17th, Polly 21st, Esme 25th, Ilse 29th and Marnie having her 1st race for the club 32nd. On the day the team came 2nd the B team 4th, C team 5th, D team 10th. Overall over the 3 meetings are team came 2nd and B team were so close missing out behind the 3rd team by just 4 points. After her excellent season Rosie was awarded the 3rd place individual medal.
In the u/13 boys race the team produced their best performance of the season with Alexander having a great battle with Miles finishing just 2 seconds down in 2nd and with their best runs of the season Jude came 7th and Sam 8th they easily won the team race on the day. The B team were led home by Ruben who like Jude will have another year in the age group in 10th, Adam 14th and Eddie 25th and they were the 1st B team in 5th place. Overall the team having started 40 points behind the 3rd team in 5th place the team came away with the 3rd place team medals.
In the u/15 girls race like the u/13 girls we showed again the depth we have. As in the previous 2 meetings it was Poppy leading the team home with another excellent run in 3rd and with Eadie who will be in this age group next year in 4th and with Ella having her best run of the season in 5th they again easily won the team race. They were well backed up again with Bertie in 7th, Ciara 9th, Ruby 11th, Lara 12th, Lacey 16th, Jess 20th, Allanah 24th and Edie 27th. On the day the B team came 3rd and the C team 4th. Overall the team were beaten into 2nd place by just 6 points and the B team gained the bronze medals. In the overall league standings after there excellent seasons Poppy took home the silver medal and the smile of the day went to Eadie who took the bronze medal.
In the u/15 boys race it was Archie continuing his fine season led the team home in 7th and with Henry 10th and George having his best run of the season in 13th the team on the day came 2nd. They were also well backed up with Harvey 14th, Barney who just missed out on his first team medal in 15th and Will 19th completed the B team who finished 4th on the day and were the 1st B team. Well done to the ever present Kit in 34th. Overall like the u/15 girls the team came away with the 2nd place team medals and Archie was rewarded with the 2nd place individual medal.
In the u/17 women’s race who run with the seniors it was Lois again having an excellent run in 7th (2nd u/17) and with Alex are only other finisher in 75th (12th u/17) the team came 4th overall just 2 points behind the 3rd team. Lois had the consolation in taking the 3rd individual medal. Good news hopefully for next year 11 of are u/15 girls will be moving up to booster the team and combine with the senior team.
In the u/17 men Joe was are only runner finishing 22nd and team finished 6th overall. They will also have several u/15 moving up next year to add to the team.
