Christmas comes Early for Katie and Amber at the SEAA Combined Events Championships, Lee Valley Sunday 21st December 2014

Brighton & Hove athletes Katie Garland (U20) and Amber Anning (U15) both triumphed at the South of England indoors Combined Events Championships on Sunday.

Competing in the pentathlon Katie ran 9.35 secs 60m Hurdles, High Jumped 1.62m and, in the Long Jump, leapt to 5.45m. These three events were her strongest and she topped the table in each. Katie then consolidated her lead with an 8.18m shot before finishing off with a 2:34 800m to pip her friend, training partner and main rival Beth Crocker (Crawley) for gold by some 100 points in a Personal Best of 3329 points.

Anning, competing in her second U15 pentathlon of the year, got off to a flying start with a 60mH PB of 9.59 secs, followed by two more PB’s in the Long Jump (5.02m) and the High Jump (1.49m), before a shot putt of 8.50m. She went into the 800m in first place and secured this position – leading from start to finish with a final PB of 2:30.34. Amber broke the 3000 point barrier for the first time with a score of 3087 – which takes her to sixth in the UK rankings this year.
