Hazel Bristow

May 10, 2019

Brighton and Hove AC is saddened to announce the death of Hazel Bristow, after a short illness.

Hazel, 84, was not only one of the behind the scenes administrators of Sussex athletics but was mother of one of the most successful Sussex athletics family in Sussex history, the Bristow boys.

Hazel was a school teacher but spent fifteen years as Secretary of the Brighton & Hove AC and was working in the Administration box at most Brighton & Hove meetings at the Withdean Stadium for some twenty years.

Such is the life of an administrator that she will be better known as mother to John, Andrew and Paul Bristow three talented middle distance runners who all won Sussex or Sussex Schools titles and, all three, represented the County and Sussex Schools on many occasions.

Andrew, who still holds the Sussex 10,000 m County record was the most prolific, representing Great Britain three times at the World Cross-county championships, more times than any other Sussex athlete as well as winning the Senior title four times.
