Stephen Strikes Silver, Katie leaps to Bronze plus a Sussex Senior Womens’ Relay Record
Stephen Ferroni added a silver medal to his ever-expanding trophy cabinet with a fantastic run in the Inter Boys 3000m. He battled down the home straight on the heels of arch rival Ben Dijkstra to cross the line in a time of 8:42.48. It is all the more remarkable that this was only Stephen’s second track race of the year. In his first in May, he qualified for the schools’ with his PB time of 8:37.3. Stephen’s success has earned him a second international vest in the Home Counties International at Cardiff this weekend.
Multi Eventer, Katie Garland pulled out all the stops to jump a personal best of 5.66m for third place in the Senior Girls’ Long Jump. Unfortunately Katie pulled a hamstring during the competition and had to withdraw but had done enough to secure her medal. Katie’s injury meant the 4×100 Senior Girls Relay team was depleted for the final where they came 7th. However in their earlier heat, the original line up of Holly Turner, Katie, Anna Short and Bethany Close had set a Sussex Senior/ U20 and B&H club record of 47.98 secs.
There were many personal bests from B&H athletes and strong performances all round. Well done to all the B&H athletes who competed for Sussex.
