Our club is desperately sad to learn of the sudden and unexpected death of Brighton and Hove AC athlete Chris Stevenson. Chris, 49, was a regular competitor in the V40 ranks for many years and husband to B&H AC athlete Paula Blackledge and father to Astrid and Lana.
Chris’s funeral will be on Tuesday, 25th April, and the family welcome anyone from the club to attend for ‘a wonderful celebration of Chris’s life.’ The details are below.
Chris was a stalwart of our teams, competing in cross country in the winter and the Sussex Veterans track and field league in the summer. In the latter, he took on a range of events in his willingness to score points for the club. In one fixture last July, he ran the 200m, 800m, and 3000m, having run the 400m and 1500m in the previous event. In between, he had slipped in several ParkRuns and the odd 10k! Chris’s last race was the Brighton half marathon in February 2023.
We send our deepest condolences to Paula, Astrid and Lana and to Chris’s wider family and many friends.
