There was a fantastic day for the club on Saturday at the Sussex Cross Country Relay at Goodwood with medals in many of the age categories.
The day started with the U13 boys and girls’ races. With the Brighton A team of Rosie Gasson, Macy Brooking and Dulcie Yelling finishing in silver medal position and Dulcie claiming the fastest leg of the day with 10:43. All four U13 girl’s teams finished in the top 10. In the boys’ race the A team finished 6th and the B team 11th.
Next was the U15 race where our girl’s teams finished 4th and 5th. The boy’s A team of Will Matthews, Adam Mehew and Henry Yelling took the bronze medal and the B team came in 9th.
In the U17 and women’s race we had an unprecedented 3 U17 girl’s teams, with the A team of Ciara Muzio, Lois Dooley and Pia Lewis taking the silver, and the B team of Ella Matthews, Bertie Brooking and Emily Muzio taking the bronze. There was a bronze medal for Lydia Growns, Phoebe Connolly and Jade Elphick in the senior women’s category and a silver medal for Paula Blackledge, Linda Schofield and Jeanette Keneally in the V45 category. Freya Leman ran the third fastest leg in the V35 category (15:27) and Linda Schofield in her first ever run for the club ran the third fastest in the V45 category (14:59).
The final race of the day was the U17 and senior men’s race the U17 boy’s team of Patrick Connolly, Archie Rowles and George Taylor took the silver medal. In the senior category our A team made up of mostly U20 runners: William Cork, Joe Clayson (u20), Tomer Tarragano (u20), Tom Eames (u20) ran fantastically to take the gold medal, with William Cork (12:11) recording the fastest leg of the day followed in second place by Tomer (12:26). The only other male team in the senior race was a V40 team, who were only able to compete by recruiting Tomer’s Dad Morris at the last minute. Matt Bristow, Chris Stevenson, Louis Taub and Morris Tarragano (V50) came away with the silver medal with Morris Tarragano recording the second fastest V50 lap of the day (14:48).

Well done all who competed! The first Sussex Cross Country League of the season takes place on Saturday 12th October at the Goodwood Race Course. There is no need to book in advance just turn up and pay on the day (and remember you B&H AC vest!).
