BASC Young Sports Personality of the Year

November 20, 2017

altCongratulations to Amber Anning who was voted ‘Young Female Sports Personality of the Year’ by the British Athletics Supporters Association (BASC) for her 2017 season.

Amber, a member of the club since she was nine, travelled to Coventry on her 17th birthday to receive the award.

This year, representing England, she won two gold medals at the World Schools’ Championships. She followed this up with a 400m bronze medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas. Her time of 53.68s was a Sussex Senior Women’s record and was the fastest time run by a British 16-year-old girl since 1984. She also took home a silver relay medal from the Caribbean and ended the season with a national title and club record of 23.76s over 200m and the World Lead (U18) time of 37.79s over 300m when, representing England South, she smashed the School Games Championship Best.

Amber ended 2017 topping the UK U17 rankings over 200m, 300m and 400m and ranked second over 100m. Her time over this distance of 11.79s in her one race of the season, equalled the 14-year-old Sussex U17 record, held by Crawley’s Carley Wenham.
