A neck and neck battle for the Sussex Under 13 League Crown went to the wire on a damp, murky Sunday at Crawley’s K2 stadium before Brighton & Hove got the better of reigning champions, Crawley.
Brighton & Hove, 349.5 points, took an early lead and managed to hold on to a narrow margin and this reversed last year’s result. Crawley scored 345, Horsham Blue Star finished in third with 284 points, well clear of fourth placed Chichester.
The dank weather conditions did not dampen the enthusiasm shown by the athletes, who provided a fine afternoon of competition, but it did impact on the performances during the afternoon.
It was not a good year for record breaking and just one fell on Sunday, the 1000m, which in turn had been the only record to tumble this season.
Rachael Wall (Brighton & Hove) had a good victory in the girls javelin throw reaching 26.89m.
Well done to all the athletes and to team manager Sarah Yelling.
