B&H Youngsters Show Strength and Depth in 2nd Sussex League XC Fixture

Despite it being a wet and miserable day 49 Brighton youngsters competed in the second Sussex league meeting at Lancing, where again there were many excellent performances.

The day started with an excellent win in the u11 race from Miles Waterworth. Meanwhile in the girls race Dulcie Yelling was 2nd and Rosie Gasson 3rd.

In the u13 girls race no fewer than 14 girls from the club competed and again as in the first meeting Rebecca Losh had another excellent run in 2nd place and with Lacey Fowler 6th and Ella Matthews 7th they were again clear team winners. The girls are now 39 points ahead in the league and are looking good for the team title. There was again great back up from the B team with Jess Corbett 11th, Eadie Yelling 12th and Tatum Walker back, after breaking her arm in 16th, for 4th place overall, only 8 points behind the 2nd team. Showing the club’s depth in this age group 8 more girls finished with Ruby Wilson 19th, Sima Saadatadeh 25th, Bertie Brooking 30th, Clem Brown 39th, Scarlett Osborne 41st, Olivia Weston 45th, Edie Seth 48th and Freya Waterworth 53rd.

There was another team victory on the day in the u15 girls race, with Lois Dooley in her first year in the age group leading the team home again with an excellent run in 3rd place, followed by Amber Wright 7th and Gracie Bernard 8th. They were were well backed with Alex Nann 12th and Astrid Blackledge 14th. The team have moved up to 3rd place in the league 33 points clear of the 4th team.

The u17 women nearly made it 3 team wins losing by just 1 point, with again Olivia Lyon-Monk leading the team home with an impressive run in 3rd place, Emma Gill 10th, Jemima Edwards in 8th and Amy Gamblin in 19th. The team are now in 2nd place in the league just 5 points behind Chichester.

In the u13 boys race Haiden May led the team home in 10th, closely followed by Josh Pay 11th and Archie Rowles without his cast on his arm in 13th, they again finished in 2nd place behind Worthing and are 2nd in the league 47 points clear of the 4th team. The B team of Will Matthews 17th, Henry Yelling 18th, Isaac Obeng 18th, George Taylor 21st and Kit Monti 50th are as the u13 Girls team are 5th in the league table and the 1st B team.

Finn Halloren led the team home again in 8th Place in the u15 boys race, with Max Brazier 10th and Tom Roberts 15th. They finished 4th, just 7 points off the first team and in the league are just 4 points behind the second team. Again backing up well in the B team were Patrick Connolly 19th, Adam Firsht 22nd and in his first race for the club Joseph Luker 26th.

For the u17 men Tom Eames had another excellent run in 2nd place closely followed by Tomer Tarragano who improved from his first run in 8th to finish in 3rd place and with Ewan Edmans 20th and Sam Kane 23rd they finished in 2nd place and like the u17 women are just 5 points behind Chichester in the league.

Well done again to all the runners, it was great to see so many red & black vests and the excellent support from the parents and a big thank you to Worthing Harriers who hosted the meeting.
