Ashley and Cathy shine in the Brighton marathon, Ferroni and Coyle make their mark in the 10K and Mini Milers set PB’s

April 19, 2016

Sussex runners were well to the fore in both the Men’s and Women’s races on a sunny but coolish Brighton Marathon on Sunday. Our own Âshley Witcomb set a PB to come home 23rd in 2:49.21. Meanwhile in the women’s race, Cathy Ulliott (W50) placed 15th in 3:12.38, which is the fourth fastest time in the UK this year in her age group.

There was a brilliant run from Martha Coyle in the 10k race that preceded the Marathon. Coyle, who is in the U20 age group finished second to leading British performer Gemma Steel (Charnwood) who had finished well clear for victory in 34:11. Coyle set a PB of 36:18 to take her to fourth in the UK U20 rankings. In the men’s race, another of our U20 athletes – Stephen Ferroni – clocked 32:14 for a fine 6th place. In February Stephen had clocked 31:09 at the Chichester 10k.

In the Mini mile on the Saturday there were many fantastic performances and fast times on the new Preston Park course. The following B&H athletes were top three:

GIRLS 9 & 10 YEARS-2nd: Eadie Yelling-6:03

BOYS 9 & 10 YEARS-1st: Henry Yelling 5:44

BOYS UNDER 18-1st: Tom Eames 4:48,3rd: Max Brazier 5:04

BOYS 11 & 12 YEARS-3rd: Joshua Pay 5:32

GIRLS 9 & 10 YEARS-3rd: Rosie Gasson 6:15

BOYS 9 & 10 YEARS-3rd: Rudy Jones 5:56

Well done to all B&H athletes who ran in 10k, Marathon and Mini Mile.
