Hello, and thank you for your interest in joining Brighton & Hove Athletic Club.
Whether you are 9 or 99, we hope you will enjoy being a member of our club.
We will do everything we can to help you enjoy and thrive in this wonderful sport.
Membership runs from 1 January to 31 December each calendar year.
Subscriptions must be renewed each January.
What does membership include?
Membership entitles you (or your child) to coaching and competition with the club.
England Athletics membership
Our fee also includes your England Athletics membership.

What age group am I in?
Quick age group summary (at a glance)
- U10: School Years 3–4
- U12: School Years 5–6
- U14: School Years 7–8
- U16: School Years 9–10
- U18: School Years 11–12
- U20: Age 18-20
- Senior: 20+ (in the calendar year)
- Masters: 35+ (on the day of competition)

If you are unsure whether you can compete within a certain age group (U13, U14, U16, U18, U20 etc),
the following guidelines (from UK Athletics Rules for Competition – Rule 141) will help.

Please note, due to the Age Group Changes taking place this Summer, the rule book is being updated. England Athletics have provided an Age Group Calculator tool if you need further guidance
Competition year
The competition year runs from 1 October to 30 September in the following year.
Under 10 (Boys & Girls)
School Years 3 and 4. (Competitors must be 9 years old by the day of competition for Sussex AA competitions.)
UK Athletics rules do not specifically cater for athletes under 11; organisers may provide events with reduced distances and lighter implements.
Under 12 (Boys & Girls)
School Years 5 and 6. Under 12 track & field is confined to competitors who are aged 10 or 11 on 31 August within the competition year.
Under 14 (Boys & Girls)
School Years 7 and 8. Under 14 track & field is confined to competitors who are aged 12 or 13 on 31 August within the competition year.
Under 16 (Boys & Girls)
School Years 9 and 10. Under 16 track & field is confined to competitors who are aged 14 or 15 on 31 August within the competition year.
Under 18 (Men & Women)
School Years 11 and 12. Under 18 track & field is confined to competitors who are aged 16 or 17 on 31 August within the competition year.
Under 20 (Junior Men & Women)
Confined to competitors who are 18 or over on 31 August within the competition year,
but Under 20 on 31 December in the calendar year of competition.
Seniors
A Senior is a competitor who is at least 20 years of age on 31 December in the calendar year of competition.
Masters
Events for Masters are confined to athletes who are at least 35 years of age on the day of competition.
