There were medals galore, some fantastic performances and lots of fun as scores of B&H youngsters experienced the Tom Pink Relays at Lee Valley last Sunday. Two coaches, full of athletes and parents, left Withdean Stadium in the early hours for what has become an annual sojourn to the North London indoor stadium, to compete against eight other teams, from across the South of England. Congratulations to U13’s Mollie and Danny and U11’s Madeline, Calum, Seb and Sam who all won their individual events.
The meeting was set up with a bequest from the parents of Tom Pink, a young athlete who was tragically killed in an accident en route to training in the early 1970’s. Relay races include trying to beat the times of some of our greatest distance runners with “Keeping up with Paula”, “Chasing Kelly” and “Chasing Mo.” On the field Sportshall activities include; weight throw for height, caber toss, shot put, standing long and triple jump, highland steps and soft javelin.
Well done to all the B&H athletes who took part, and thank you to team managers Pete Witcomb, Steve Jones and Richard Carter, to U15 Amber Anning who travelled to support her sisters’ and ended up officiating all day! and to the B&H supporters club who generously provided the transport.
