On another beautiful afternoon at Withdean stadium the Under 13 team beat great rivals Crawley, for the third consecutive year, by 11 points to win the Sussex League Final. The team this year included seven athletes in the first year of the age group who will be able to compete next year, so the future is looking very bright. It was a great all round team performance with every one scoring valuable points.
There are too many names to mention, however we must congratulate our three winners. Adam Firsht, who in his first year ran a well judged 600m and Max Brazier who was drafted in at the last minute and won the B string in a personal best, gaining maximum points for the team in that event. We also gained maximum points in the long jump where new member Alex Dyball jumped 4.64m, to win the A string – the same distance as Danny Ross-Horton who won the B. The third winner was Finn Halloren who won the hurdles in fine style and anchored the B relay with Adam Firsht, Samual Culbert and Cameron Nash to victory, after the A team of Alex Dyball, Danny Ross-Horton, George Miller and Dominic Pay stormed home to a win in a very fast time of 55 seconds.
In total 36 athletes turned out, with several non scorers competing who were ready to fill in any gaps, illustrating the great team spirit at the club.
Finally I must thank all our coaches and the parents that supported the team and to Melanie Anning, Mike Ellis-Martin and Christel Shaw for all their hard work helping out with the catering, without them this win would not be possible and I would like to thank everyone for my birthday presentation on a day I personally will never forget.
