Superb second at SAL

July 17, 2019

The Brighton SAL team came a brilliant second after travelling to Tonbridge on Saturday 13th July.

Paddy Vermes started and finished the day with strong throwing performances in discus and hammer, whilst also filling in for both long and short hurdles, pole vault and javelin. Kev Moore and Will Cork won A and B string in the 3K and Tom Niner smashed his 800m PB and won the A race.

Matt Smith completed his own heptathlon of events with some strong performances on the track and in the field and Will Cork smashed his 5K PB.

On the ladies side, Jo Wilding, Lydia Growns, Freya Leman and Jade Elphick filled our majority of the races above 400m and brought home many, much needed points. Becky Owen competed in nine events with a debut in 400m hurdles and a second best ever throw in Javelin. Meanwhile, in the field, there were great performances including season’s and personal bests from Sarah Hewitt, Lucy Kirby and Sasha Bowles.

There was a brilliant team atmosphere with many fantastic performances in Tonbridge. Joint team manager Sarah Hewitt said: “Overall it was a splendid team effort with everything filled except men’s steeplechase. Mathematically we can still get promotion but we need a full team and a full set of officials.”

The team is still in contention for promotion so please help out on Saturday 17th August in Dartford.
