South of England Championships

June 17, 2014

Brighton and Hove Athletics Club were well represented at the South of England Championships last weekend (14th/15th June).

This event  is often used by athletes in preparation for the National Championships in the next couple of weeks.

There were medals, pbs and good performances all round:

GOLD medal in the U20 women where Grace Hailstone produced a season best in cold and windy conditions to win the U20 javelin championship.

The clubs athletes won 2 SILVER medals in very exciting races with the medalists recording exactly the same time as the winners.  They were Anna Short in the U20 100m and Matt Hewitt in the senior 110m Hurdles.

For BRONZE medals we turn to the jumps where Tom French jumped over 7metres and the triple jump where Jack Valeri jumped a seasons best.  The 3000 m Steeple Chase also produced a bronze medal for the club with Andrew Donno running well.

Emma Kirk-Odunubi produced a pb in the shot and a seasons best for 4th in the discus.  Gwilym Cooper smashed his 400 m Hurdle pb twice progressing to a top 4 place.  In the 100 m hurdles Beth Close ran her fasted time of the season to just missout on a medal. They always say 4th is the worst place to come but these athletes did tremendously well.

Other athletes made the most of the high level of competition to push themselves:

Chris Hewitt in 100 and 200m flat

Peter Moreno in 100 and 200m flat

Ian Crowe- Wright 800 m smashing his pb

Tom Clifford in 800m

Seb Tucknott in 400m

Howard Bristow in 5000m

A top weekend’s set of performances – congratulations to all who competed.Full results are on the SEAA web site or Power of 10.
