Small Team delivers big results at first Upper League YDL

April 28, 2022

On Sunday, 24th of April, 34 athletes competed at Hillingdon in the Upper YDL. The first time we have travelled for two years.

We finished the day just nine points off 3rd place in 4th, but we were the first of the non-composite teams.

The day’s highlight was the Under 17 Men’s 4 x 400 team. Despite having only five team members in that age group, the squad managed to pull out a fantastic finish to bring the baton home first. Fionn, Joe, Rowan and a cracking final leg by Josh, our second claim athlete.

A close second was a fine double win for U20 Henry & U17 Fionn in a packed mixed 1500. Both came away with PBs, and a fine finish saw them come in 1st and 2nd (1st U17 A string), with Kit and Rowan providing excellent B string support both in 2nd.

Our sprinters were in fine form all-round first year U20, Noah getting a PB of 11.1 and U17 Joe 11.7 in the 100m and Kyle getting 2 PBs 11.1 & 22.6. Sophie and Libby both sprint hurdled their way to PBs as well.

Other notable performances came on the field; Matt and Scarlet both vastly improved their long jump PBs. Matt secured the win in 6.29, Scarlett 3rd in 5.11 and Freya sent her Discus out to a new PB of 30.62m.

The team atmosphere was terrific on and off the track. There were too many cracking performances to mention them all.

Finally, a big shout out to Lucy Kirby co-team manager and very busy on the day picking up points over a staggering number of events.
