On Wednesday at the Phoenix BMC meeting, Tom Eames smashed Jon Bigg’s 28 –year-old 1500m u17 club record when he ran 3:54.86 in a thrilling race with Brighton Phoenix’s U20 athlete Josh Eeles. Tom took seven seconds off his previous PB and his time is also a Commonwealth Youth Games qualifier and places him second in the UK in his age group.

At Sunday’s YDL in Winchester Amber Anning improved her Sussex U17 300 metre record when she helped the club to victory in the second of this season’s Youth Development Upper Age Group league matches.

Amber’s winning time was a record breaking 38.5s, which is a European lead. However, her athletic weekend was not finished there as Monday saw her travel to Newham where she ran an open 200 metres in 24.13s which is a Commonwealth Youth Games qualifying time and lifts her to fourth place on the Sussex All Time senior list. Anning presently tops the U17 rankings over 200m,300m and 400m.

Thrower Ben Hawkes (Worthing), competing for Brighton at the YDL, completed a hat trick of wins and ESAA standards topping the seventy metres mark again in the hammer throw with 71.39m, throwing 49.95m in the discus and putting the shot a pb of 15.55m.
