Glory for Rebecca at Goodwood – U13/15/17 report

October 19, 2016

After a great start in the Sussex Cross Country Relays, the Brighton youngsters returned to Goodwood for the first Sussex XC league match of the season.

On a fine day with dry conditions the Under 13 girls started the day’s proceedings. An in form Rebecca Losh stormed to victory and with Lacey Fowler 4th and Ella Matthews 5th, the girls easily won the team race and are looking good to retain last season’s league title. The B team backed up well – with Eadie Yelling 13th, Ruby Wilson 18th and Bertie Brooking in 22nd – finishing in 7th place – 20 points behind the 3rd team. Newcomers Allanah Clayton 32nd, Calypso Thomas 36th and Freya Waterworth 39th completed the C team in 10th place.

In the Under 13 boys race there was a great tussle with Josh Pay 8th leading home the team of Haiden May in 9th and Will Matthews in 10th to finish in 2nd place. Like the girls, the B team were well supported with George Taylor 15th, Oscar Davies 19th and Archie Rowles, who was carrying a cast on his broken wrist, in 20th, finishing in 5th place. Henry Yelling was not far behind in 29th with Kit Monti in 46th.

In the Under 15 girls race all of our athletes are in the first year of the age group. Lois Dooley had an excellent run in 7th, followed home by Morgan Thomas 15th, Alex Nann 17th and Astrid Blackledge in 20th. The team did very well to finish in 4th place.

In the Under 15 boys race Finn Halloren had an excellent run in 5th place, Max Brazier recovered after a heavy fall to come 10th and Adam Firsht in his first year in the age group was just behind in 11th. The team finished 2nd. Patrick Connolly also in his first year in the age group was 18th.

In the Under 17 womens race Olivia Monk led the team home in an excellent 3rd place and with Emma Gill 10th, Jemima Edwards 17th and Amy Gamblin 19th the team finished 3rd. To end a great day off for the club Tom Eames had an excellent run to finish in 4th, just 14 seconds behind the winner and with the ever reliable Tomer Tarragano in 8th and Sam Kane having his best run for the club in 14th, the Under 17 Mens team beat a very strong Chichester team by one point.

Well done to everyone and thank you to parents for the great support.
