Personal Bests for B&H Athletes at the Brighton Marathon & 10K Sunday 6th April 2014

April 15, 2014

There were a host of personal bests and strong performances from B+H athletes at the Brighton Marathon and inaugural 10k, as the forecast bad weather failed to materialise in the presence of World record holder, Paula Radcliffe.

Graham Godden sliced almost 20 seconds off his previous best at the new BM10k which started earlier in the morning before the Marathon departure. Graham’s 33.24 brought him 11th place in the race and ranks him 8th V45 in the UK so far in 2014.  Helena Tobin was also not far off her 10K PB, despite running most of the race solo, and came home 5th woman in a strong 36.31. Well done too to Gail Nerurkar who won the W45-54 category in a time of 43:23.

In the day’s main event, 39 year old Louis Taub took a full seven minutes off his marathon best to finish 18th overall out of the thousands taking part in a superb 2:40:37. Well done, Louis! Paul Howard also made it a day to remember by finally breaking the 3 hour barrier at the sixth attempt with an excellent 2.55.49. Congratulations go also to Chris Mallinson for successfully completing the first half of his “Sub Three Double” on consecutive weeks, with a comfortable looking 2.57.30 in Brighton.

Jeanette Kenneally ran her fastest time in many years despite a late injury scare and ahead of her target time with 3:28:42 for 57th lady and 18th over 35.  Judith Carder ran very well for 3:51:36 to give her 277th lady but 6th over 55.

Other Brighton performances were Steve Scott 3:29:01, Simon Ho 3:41:42 and Phil Stevenson 3:21:29.  Dan Marriott also ran a big PB with 3:20:05 and again, like the guys above, Dan is looking to go significantly quicker in his next marathon or two.  Jason Knight had a great run for what was again a big PB of 3:14:27, giving him 126th over 45 male.

Special mention has to go to the outstanding work that the pacers did with 3:15 pacer Mark Halls coming home in 3:14:30 to the delight of his group.  Shaun Billing even more accurate with 3:29:59 for the 3:30 paced group, so long as you allowed your group to pass you on the way to the finish line that is Shaun??  Finally to Kevin Bush with 3:59:14 for the 4:00 paced group …… well done you guys!!
