Despite atrocious conditions at Alton Towers B&H’s Stephen Ferroni raced to a superb 8th place in the U13 boys’ National Cross-country championships last Saturday. Following snow then rain, safety concerns for the athletes led to a shortening of some of the course distances. This was a blow to Stephen, who excels over rough terrain, as the organisers decided to omit the hill from his race.
Stephen who had finished fifth in the Southern event, had a fantastic race, finishing in 8:59, just 12 seconds down on race winner George Elliott of Benfleet.
In the Junior Men’s race Will Gray made the top 50, finishing 43rd in a time of 31:07 and Kieran Silsby ran 32:46 for 90th place.
In the senior men’s event, the race was shortened by more than a mile and Matt Bristow finished 181st.
Well done to everybody who took part.
