More Excellent Performances at Bexhill, 11.11.17

November 13, 2017

The Second Sussex league meeting took place at Bexhill where conditions were just right for cross country with only a few muddy stretches. As at Goodwood we had another excellent turn out with many strong performances with three of our six teams winning on the day and two individual winners.

In the first non league race – the u11 girls- Dulcie Yelling had another impressive win and nine-year-old Tom Matthews had another excellent run in 3rd place in the u11 boys race.

In the U13 girls league race Ruby Wilson led the team home in an excellent 8th place and she was followed home by Rosie Gasson 10th and Sophie Packham who improved ten places from her first run at Goodwood in 14th. They are both still in their first year in the age group. The team finished 3rd on the day and is 3rd in the league overall. The B team were led home by Sima Saadatzadeh in 20th place and with Maddie Badruzaman 24th, Anya Hmaimou 25th and Anna Kaps 26th the team finished 7th and were the 1st B team.

In the U13 boys event Henry Yelling had an excellent run to finish 2nd and with Will Matthews 6th and Miles Waterworth also in his first year in the age group not far behind in 8th the team were 1st on the day and have moved up to 3rd in the league overall. Sam Southgate 21st was our next runner to finish with Jonny Hancock 50th, Tomas Bond 53rd and Kit Monti 57th.

The 2nd team win came in the U15 girls where again we dominated the field with three teams in the 1st six. Lois Dooley and Rebecca Losh – also in her first year in the age group – had a great tussle from the start with Lois just getting her head in front in 3rd place from Rebecca in 4th and with Ciara Muzio in 8th the team were easy winners and are now seven points in the lead after two races.

Ciara’s twin sister Emily led home the B team in 10th closely followed by Alex Nann 11th and Lacey Fowler 15th with Ella Matthews 16th, Jess Corbett 17th and Bertie Brooking 24th completing a fine team performance. The B team are now in 4th in the league 18 points off 3rd place.

In the U15 boys race, we had nine competing on the day. This race was slightly marred as the boys ended up doing a short lap, however with Adam Firsht 9th, Patrick Connolly 12th and Baxter Fletcher 19th the team came 3rd on the day and have moved up to 5th just 6 points off 3rd overall. Good back up come from Joseph Luker 21st, Archie Rowles 22nd, Harvey Grant 24th, Josh Pay 30th, Oscar Davies 43rd and George Taylor 46th.

In the U17 and U20 women’s event which was part of the senior race, Olivia Lyon Monk had an excellent run in 11th – 4th U17; Emma Gill was 20th and the 2nd U20 with Amy Gamblin 84th and Jemima Edwards (U17)was 91st in a field of 131 finishers.

In the U17 mens race Tom Eames had another excellent run to win his 2nd league race of the season and with Tomer Tarragano back from injury in 5th and Joe Clayson 10th the team were easy winners and are now 23 points clear of the second team. Backup came from Sam Kane 14th, Sam Wilkinson 19th and Max Brazier 24th.

Well Done again to every one and a big thanks to Hastings who were up at the crack of dawn to mark the course.
