There were some stunning results from Brighton & Hove athletes at the Sussex Schools Championships at K2 On Saturday.
UK number one Edan Cole continued his winning ways in the javelin with a 59.22m javelin throw in the Intermediate boys competition, setting a new Championships Best mark. Under 17’s Amber Anning, Moyo Oloko and Lili Parker took the podium places in the intermediate girls 100m. Amber beat the Championship Best Performance in her heat and bettered it again in the final running a PB, national standard and new club record of 12.09 seconds. Moyo also ran an English Schools standard of 12.48 and Lili set a new PB of 12.78 seconds.
Meanwhie U15 Max Brazier ran the race of his life to win the Junior Boys 800m in an English Schools standard and almost three second PB of 2:04.65.
Leading all the way, Anna Dornbusch, won the Junior Girls 200m in 27.01 seconds. Joshua Firsht was equally dominant in the intermediate Boys 400m winning in a personal best of 52.70. Olivia Lyon-Monk won a silver medal in the Intermediate girls 800m with a PB run of 2:27.07 secs and Flo Robinson also won silver in the Junior girls race with a PB of 2:27.62. Her big sister Emily launched the discus to 36.85m for gold. This is a new PB and national standard. Ellie Fitzgerald won a bronze medal in the intermediate Girls Hammer with a PB of 41.84m. There was a bronze medal too for Sophie Gunn in the intermediate girls triple jump and amother for Noah Rees in the Intermediate Boys shot with a new PB of 11.67m.
Matt Smith was third in the Senior Boys discus and first in the Long Jump and James Porter won silver in the Intermediate Boys discus. Amber Pennington won a silver medal in the Intermediate Girls javelin as did Elizabeth Korczak – throwing a PB and English Schools qualifying standard of 35.48m – in the Junior Girls event.
Stephen Ferroni romped away with the Senior Boys 1500m in 4.08.81 as did Emma Gill with the Intermediate Girls 3000m. Natasha Russell won a bronze medal in the Intermediate Girls 300mH and Jamie Lambert set a PB of 58.54 to win the Inter Boys 400mH.
Junior Boy Harry Rienecker-Found high jumped 1.75m to win the event and in the same age group Alex Dyball won Long Jump bronze with a leap of 5.22m, a position replicated by Georgia Coleshill in the Intermediate Girls event and Chela Ruiz-Cravhino in the Junior Girls competition.
