Many medals as Brighton Youngsters Dominate Final XC League Fixture 11.02.18

February 12, 2018

The final Sussex league meeting held in Stanmer park in the worst possible conditions, where the athletes had to battle against the wind, rain and muddy conditions underfoot, the Brighton teams despite illness and half term on the day won the u/13 and u/15 girls the u/13 and u/15 boys and u/17 men and overall we finished with 3 league titles and 2 runners up spots and 32 team members will be receiving medals which must be a Sussex record.

In the first non-league race the u/11 boys Jude Clayton came 3rd just in front of Tom Matthews in 4th. In the u/13 girls race it was Dulcie Yelling leading the team home in an excellent 2nd place and with Rosie Gasson 6th and Sophie Packham having her best run in 7th easily won on the day, however were just 8 points from winning the league title and for all 3 scorers it was their first year in the age group, so looking good for next year. They were again well backed by Ruby Wilson 11th, Sima Saadatzadeh 19th, Tilly Wilburn 20th, Anya Hmaimou 23rd and Allanah Clayton 25th.

In the u/13 boys race it was again Dulcie’s brother Henry leading the team home in 3rd and with Will Matthews having his best just behind in 4th and Sam Southgate in his first year in the age group 7th the team were again easy winners on the day and after starting the day in third place came threw to win the league team title by 3 points. The next finishers were William Muzio 14th, Archie Turner 17th, 31st Jonny Hancock and Kit Monti 35th.

In the u/15 girls race Rebecca Losh who has improved as the season went on, had an outstanding run to win her first league race of the season and with Pia Lewis home for half term having her best race to date in 3rd and Lois Dooley 5th they were again easy winners and the team won the league title by a massive 60 points.

The B team were led home by Emily Muzio 9th, Bertie Brooking 15th, Lacey Fowler 17th, Alex Nann and Astrid Blackledge 26th and the team starting the day in 4th place moved up to finish 3rd overall and it is fitting that 11 girls will be awarded with team medals 6 golds and 5 bronze.

In the u/15 boys race it was Tom Roberts continuing his fine form, led the team home in 3rd place and with Patrick Connolly having his best race to date just behind in 4th and Archie Rowles 13th the team were easy winners on the day and after starting the day in 4th place came threw to take 2nd place in the league. Not far behind came Baxter Fletcher in 16th and George Taylor 21st.

In the senior race Jemima Edwards came 38th 8th u/17 women and Amy Gamblin 41st 4th u/20 women.

In the u/17 men’s race Tom Eames had another easy win and with Tomer Tarragano in 3rd and Joe Clayson 7th the team were easy winners and were our third team to take the league title. As in all the age groups they were well backed by Max Brazier 9th, Sam Kane 10th and Henry Taylor 22nd.

In the individual league standings Henry Yelling u/13 and Rebecca Losh u/15 both finished 2nd and Tom Eames with 3 wins took the league title.
