A successful weekend for Sussex athletes at the South of England Combined Events championships at Horspath, Oxford saw a title and a clutch of medals for Brighton & Hove AC athletes
The senior and under 20 women’s competitions were held in conjunction and Sussex dominated filling the first four places. Becky Owen took second place in the senior competition with 4457 points. (15.32s, 1.55m.10.70m,26.99s,30.40m, 2:35.22s), behind Hastings Elise Lovell.
Second overall but winner of the U20 heptathlon title was Katie Garland who scored 4994 points after stringing together (14.79s, 1.67m 10.02m, 26.17s, 5.64m, 31.50m and 2:25.73s).
There was also a second place for Matt Smith in the under 20 men’s decathlon with a total of 5705 points less than a hundred off his Personal Best.
