Fifteen Brighton Athletes Selected for the English Schools’

June 25, 2015

Brighton & Hove club athletes make up a quarter of the 60 strong Sussex team selected for the English Schools’ Championships at Gateshead next month.

For several athletes it will be their first ever English Schools’ and for some of the Seniors it will be their last, after many years of selection and success. U20 Katie Garland will be looking to improve on her fine third place in last year’s Senior Girls’ Long Jump and U20 Nathan Parker – an Intermediate silver medallist in the hurdles two years ago will be hoping for a podium place as he returns to form after injury. Under 20 Southern Champion, Anna Short, is also a contender for a medal in the Senior Girls 100m.

The English Schools’ National Championships is the fourth largest athletics event in the World and is staged each year. It is organised entirely by volunteer teachers, who bring together the best athletes in each county in England to compete for the honour of being the best athlete in the Country. To be considered for the team athletes have to achieve a qualifying standard. Most of the GB 2012 Olympic Team took part in the Championships during their early sporting careers!

Good Luck to all the selected athletes.
