The Sussex cross country championships were held in mild and perfect conditions on Bexhill common and the Brighton youngsters produced some outstanding team and individual performances.
In the U13 girls race Rebecca Losh had another excellent run coming away with the silver medal and with Lacey Fowler 6th and Jess Corbet 11th the team beat great rivals Bodyworks by just one point. Again showing our depth in this age group Eadie Yelling who won the year 7 Brighton schools three days earlier, was not far behind in 13th and with the ever consistent Ruby Wilson 16th and Bertie Brooking 18th the B team came 5th just four points behind the bronze medallists. B&H U13 girls made up over a quarter of the field with Sima Saadatzadeh 23rd, Scarlett Osbourne 32nd, Allanah Clayton 33rd, Edie Seth 39th, Clem Brown 42nd and Freya Waterworth 43rd.
The second team victory came in the U15 girls race where againois Dooley had an excellent run in 3rd place and with Alex Nann having her best run of the season in 8th, Amber Wright 9th the team came away with the title by three points. Bad luck to Gracie Bernard who was in the top 10 when she injured her ankle and had to drop out.
The third team victory came in the U15 boys race where with Max Brazier 6th and Tom Roberts 7th – both having their best runs of the season –well backed up by Finn Halloren in 11th – they won the team title by seven points. Again they had great support from Patrick Connolly 13th, Adam Firsht 16th, Henry Taylor 17th and Baxter Fletcher 22nd, where again they were the first B team just six points behind the 3rd placers.
In the U13 boys race it was Henry Yelling – who like his twin sister-had won the year 7 Brighton schools, who had his best run this season leading home the team in 10th and with Josh Pay 12th, Archie Rowles 14th the team were just 4 points out of the medals. The B team of Oscar Davies 21st, Kofi Obeng 22nd, George Taylor 36th and Kit Monti 54th they were again the first B team in 7th Place. Bad luck also to Haiden May who like Gracie had to pull out of the race when he was in the top 10 with a sprained ankle.
In the U17 women’s race Olivia Lyon-Monk had another excellent run in 2nd place and with Emma Gill 9th, Amy Gamblin 16th and Jemima Edwards 18th the team came away with the Bronze medal.
In the U17 men’s race Tomer Tarragano had another excellent run staying with the leaders and was beaten by just eight seconds into 3rd place and with Sam Kane 18th and Ewan Edmans 22nd the team were placed 4th.
