B&H jumpers in Scottish Champs

January 28, 2020

Brighton & Hove athletes flew up to Glasgow for the Scottish Championships last weekend. It was a brief trip as the athletes are in the middle of their mock exams.

First up was Ruby Haines, who after getting over the enormity of the competition in her first jump produced two fantastic attempts that broke the plasticine meaning she missed the cut.

Next, Brighton triple jump record holder Kelsey Sutherland, who was competing up in the senior age group, had similar luck as Ruby and many others through the day and couldn’t quite get her last two big jumps in, and also missing out on the cut for a final three jumps with a best of 10.55m.

On the other side of the stadium was Ruby’s twin brother Arthur who flew through the air to finish fourth in a competitive long jump final, picking up an indoor PB OF 6.33m, just four centimetres off his outdoor best.

Last but not least, was Louis Goffin who, like Kelsey was competing against the seniors in the triple jump. This was a stacked final with many 15m+ jumpers, but after a shortened season due to injury Louis was looking forward to throwing out some big jumps. And that he did starting very strong! But the jumping gods were not on the side of any of the athletes at Emirates, and a number of his huge attempts didn’t count. This didn’t stop his however, and in his final attempted he was able to pull out a personal best of 13.90m to finish sixth.

All athletes represented themselves incredibly well and are looking forward to competing at the English indoor championships next month.
